1. Animal Custody & Care
The shelter provides safe, humane housing and care for stray, unwanted, abandoned, abused, and impounded animals. Daily responsibilities include: feeding and cleaning, health evaluation and treatment, behavior evaluation, vaccinations, microchipping, and humane euthanasia (when necessary). On average, the Custody & Care staff cares for approximately 200 animals daily, maintaining standards required by the North Carolina Animal Welfare Act (Forsyth County, NC, 2023).
2. Adoption and Fostering
The shelter manages all aspects of animal adoption and fostering. Interested individuals can view available dogs and cats online and apply to adopt or foster through the shelter’s website (Forsyth County Animal Shelter).
3. Vaccination and Microchip Clinics
The shelter provides vaccinations and microchipping as part of its intake and adoption process.
4. Animal Control and Public Safety
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office continues to provide animal enforcement services, including:
picking up strays, unwanted, sick, or injured animals, handling dangerous or aggressive animals,
enforcing state and local animal laws, and providing rabies quarantine programs.

5. Community Engagement and Education
The shelter collaborates with the Animal Protection & Control Advisory Board and other organizations to facilitate communication, education, and public/private partnerships that benefit both people and animals in the community.
